Qualifications

City & Guilds Award: Basic Skills in Construction – Plastering
(Award 6217 - 04 level 1)

This qualification can start you on a successful plastering career.

The City & Guilds course is made up of 7 mandatory units:

Mandatory Units:

Unit 016 Repairing a patch in a plastered wall
Unit 065 Bonding and setting a ceiling in one coat
Unit 066 Applying a floating coat to wall and attached pier
Unit 067 Applying and finishing the setting coat to a floated wall and attached pier
Unit 068 Applying a floating coat to a square or rectangular column
Unit 069 Applying a floating and finishing coat to a square or rectangular column
Unit 070 Scrim and skim finish with plaster

And then you must choose TWO of the following optional units:

Optional Units:

Unit 017 Screeding a sand and cement floor from a given level or datum point
Unit 018 Introduction to fixing floor tiles and skirting tiles
Unit 072  Re-plaster over textured ceiling using bonding agent
Unit 073 Applying a plain rendering and finish with a wood float
Unit 074 Applying a Tyrolean hand machine finish to a prepared wall
Unit 075 Fixing bellcast bead and applying scratch coats to wall areas

Internal assessors will verify you on each of these units.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the course?
8 weeks. You choose the start date to suit you.

As an alternative to 8 continuous weeks, the course is offered on a block release basis over four 2 week periods.

What’s included in the price?
The price includes your training, training materials and tools, and all assessment costs.

Can I get funding?
Yes. The course qualifies for LSC funding. The level of this funding depends on your individual circumstances. Please get in touch with us for information about how this applies to you.

It’s a bit daunting; I haven’t been to college for years.
Our friendly learning environment allows you to learn at your own pace. Our training policy is one bay per person. Each bay is the size of a small bedroom. As you progress, you’ll transform this bay from brick and block wall with an open rafted ceiling to a completed, plastered room.

You don’t need to be employed in the construction industry to do this course, but you must be sixteen years old or more.
